GREEK DANCE 101 - a global Greek dance club
GREEK DANCE 101 - a global Greek dance club
Dance is one of our favorite things to teach and share. The mix of culture, music, tradition, communal experience, and even (sneakily) exercise makes Greek dancing a recipe for shared joy.
We receive messages from all over the world from people looking to learn how to Greek dance or improve their skills so they can feel confident on the dance floor. Whether you need to prepare for an event (so many big fat Greek weddings and baptisms, so little time), are marrying into a Greek family, or want to brush up on skills, we’ve got you.
This is an entry to mid-level offering, honed from our experience teaching hundreds of group and private lessons. Join us this fall for our first official group course offering! Doors will close for registration on October 18.
Note that early registration for the fall session ends October 3. After that, pricing increases from $375 to $449.
What to expect:
Wedding and event-ready basics: step onto any dance floor and feel prepared + ready to have fun.
Entry-level sessions on a variety of regions, including island dances, Cretan, and, of course, some zeibekiko.
Our expertise in dance floor etiquette. Who goes to the front of the line? And why? Can I join that zeibekiko? Yes, it matters.
Classes informed by bodily awareness. Your teacher has a background in classical dance forms and mindful movement (yoga).
CONFIDENCE for your next event or panegyri/glendi. Get ready for weddings HDF/FDF, baptisms, you name it!
Connection to Greek culture through music and the art of dance. No, you do NOT need to be Greek! This is for anyone or any ethnic background.
FUN!
Who this might be for:
You’re marrying into a Greek family and want to feel part of their culture and festivities.
You’re Greek and getting married - and desperately need a brush up on your skills.
You can’t attend in-person classes due to schedule conflicts or because they’re not available to you. You need something flexible and location-independent!
You’re attending one of those holiday galas and want to feel confident on the dance floor.
You haven’t danced since that one (potentially traumatic) festival appearance circa 2007 in a sweaty tent. Maybe you even hated it back then, but now, you have dance floor FOMO and want to enjoy dancing again. We get it! Let’s get you back in the ring.
You have (insert wedding/baptism/summer plans here) and want to learn the basic steps - and maybe show off a bit.
You want to learn more about Greek dance beyond cheesy tropes.
You simply love movement and music and want to have fun.
People of all ages! We ask that registrants be 18 and up. There is no age limit :) If you’d like your children to join, please reach out separately, and we’ll discuss.
This is a 5-week course. You’ll receive recordings of the Zoom classes afterward, so don’t fret if you can’t make it live.
Class dates are at 11 am EST, Saturdays, set for:
October 18, 25
November 8, 15, 22
This is our answer to global inquiries for dance. We’ve taught countless classes over Zoom and find the format works well. We can see and critique you if you want, but you’re welcome to turn your screen off for privacy :) In other words, this is a great option if you’re at all self-conscious .
